Shanna Cox is a Los Angeles–based oil painter working in contemporary figurative and representational painting. Her work occupies the threshold between the familiar and the surreal, using the female figure and constructed environments to examine how identity, intimacy, and embodiment are shaped within increasingly mediated landscapes.

Drawing from her experience of coming of age amid rapid technological, environmental, and cultural transformation, Cox’s paintings consider the friction between organic presence and artificial systems. Figures appear suspended between autonomy and exposure, reflecting the psychological effects of digital saturation, consumer desire, and environmental precarity.

Through bold color, controlled distortion, and an attention to detail, Cox uses painting as a site of tension rather than resolution. Her work resists nostalgia and futurism alike, instead focusing on the instability of the present moment—particularly as it is lived and negotiated by women.
